Straight from the Runway at Discount Prices
Discount Shopping in New York City includes some unique discount stores, where everyday prices beat any department store sale. Another great NYC find are our Resale and Consignment Shops. Their gently used items might have been worn once, by a model or actress, during a Fashion Week runway show.
When you’ve exhausted New York City Shopping, think about a day trip out of Manhattan to one of our large New York Outlet Malls, which offer discounts on everything from Prada to Pottery Barn.
Discount Department Stores
When shopping in New York City, you should definitely try our unique discount store, Century 21. The stores are excellent and their everyday prices beat any department store sale. Their prices are similar to clearance prices, but usually during the current season. As with most discount stores, they are “hit or miss,” depending on the day/week you go and what you’re looking for…but you never know what goodies you can find.
Nordstrom Rack Discount Department Store
Just one block from DSW discount shoes, making Union Square somewhat of a discount shopping destination. Nordstrom Rack is the outlet of the famous department store, which does not have a NYC store opened their first NYC retail store in 2019. Their brands are not as upscale as Century 21, but they have a good Men’s and Women’s clothing and shoe selection (no kids).
60 East 14th St (4th Ave/Broadway) Union Square
Saks Off Fifth
Opened March 2016, Saks Off Fifth is a joint venture between Gilt, an online discount site, and Saks Fifth Ave. The few times I’ve been, there was a fantastic selection of a variety of brands, from Hermes vintage to new Nordstrom brands, with super-friendly and helpful sales people.
Midtown East – 125 E 57th Street (Park Ave)
Bloomingdale’s Outlet
Recently opened in 2015, to mixed reviews. Some have scored great finds on quality merchandise, and others say it is not the quality of the midtown Bloomingdales.
Upper West Side – 2085 Broadway @72nd St
Fox’s Discount Store
Designers include Michael Kors, Elie Tahari and Free People at up to 70 percent off.
Upper East Side – 147 E 86th St @ Lexington Ave
Upper West Side – 2234 Broadway @80th St
Century 21 Discount Department Store
(Re-opened May 2023)
Century 21 has huge Men’s, Women’s, Childrens and Home departments. Located near Wall Street, they originally targeted the business shopper. The Wall Street crowd would run before 7:00am and buy a bunch of shirts and ties, knowing they wouldn’t get home to change their clothing for another day or two.
Because Century 21 often works directly with garment district reps, and only have to stock locally, they carry very high end designers. Armani, Pucci, Prada and Missoni are regulars and they have a greatcshoe department for both men and women.
If you are downtown (9-11 Memorial, Wall Street, Statue of Liberty), Century 21 is definitely worth checking out. Their hours revolve around Wall Street, please check in advance.
- Financial District – 22 Cortlandt St (Church/Broadway). Their hours revolve around Wall Street, please check in advance.

NYC Resale and Consignment Stores
Let me dispell any misnomers about our Resale and Consignment Shops in Manhattan – they are incredible gems. All their items are hand-picked by the stores’ managers, who are fashionistas, and are either brand new with tags, or very gently used. It is not uncommon for gently used to mean it was worn once, by a model or actress, during a photo shoot or runway show. Thrift stores are another type of store entirely and are not to be confused with our consignment resale stores.
True Story: I once picked up a pair of Christian Louboutins for $110, that still had the Neiman Marcus tag on the sole, along with the last name of a runway model and the show in which she wore them at Fashion Week!!
Brands regularly stocked include: Prada, Chanel, Hermés, Gucci, Armani, Versace, Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Theory, Missoni and more – all at a fraction of the retail cost. For a true shopping in New York City experience, our resale stores are not to be missed.

CLOSED – Cosmetic Market
A completely unique experience in NYC, the Cosmetic Market has bargains to be found, but they are definitely hit or miss. Tons of high end cosmetics, some discontinued, many are the “gift with purchase” travel sizes from department stores, but since many items are $.99 or less, worth a stop if near Grand Central and the NY Public Library.
Midtown East – 15 E 37th St (between 5th/Mad)
Closed 2014
Loehmann’s – (not Loehmans)
Loehmann’s buys nationally, so they have brands such as Juicy Couture, Theory, Nine West, Polo and DKNY. Great jean selection, Rock & Republic, Seven, Joe’s. Occasionally, you can also find Manolo Blahnik, Prada, Chanel and I even saw Hermés, once. The Upper West Side location often has a better shopping in New York City than Chelsea, as it has less traffic.
